When landscapes appear in aurèce vettier’s work, they emerge as spaces held at a distance, their atmosphere retaining a particular opacity. The image is structured around partially indeterminate zones, around forms of incomplete visibility. This aesthetic corresponds to the way memories reconfigure themselves within dream activity. It engages a notion of dream-knowledge: a form of knowledge shaped through contact with unstable images. The technologies and techniques mobilized by the artist are fully part of this construction. aurèce vettier trains generative artificial intelligence models on images related to childhood, embracing the idea that the algorithm introduces new continuities. This process produces a plurality of propositions, some of which are then translated into painting by a decorative painter. His role belongs to a logic of studio practice and craftsmanship.

This first body of work, rooted in sur-réalité, maintains a direct connection with a second field of investigation: nature. aurèce vettier constructs bespoke datasets by gathering visual elements from diverse sources in order to compose a potential herbarium within latent space. These fragments of augmented nature also take material form in oil on canvas, but also in Aubusson tapestry and in bronze, notably through the lost-wood casting technique. In these works, levels of detail drawn from observation coexist with zones of computational approximation. aurèce vettier’s practice thus unfolds in a constant oscillation between sur-réalité and sur-nature.

It articulates memory and invention, archive and projection, calculation and studio practice, proposing a visual experience in which the living and the dreamlike answer one another.
