Butterflies

The impossible butterflies are the fauna of the sur-nature, the first animal life to emerge from the same world as the Potential Herbariums. They are generated with custom AI models and follow the logic of real butterflies without belonging to any existing species. Made in collaboration with Katarzyna Cichy, they recur across aurèce vettier's paintings as flocks of yellow butterflies, at times in gold leaf, and emerge as sculptural works. In the artist's dream imagery they appear as signs, surfacing at the moments when reality begins to shift.
